Dr. Meehan, the forensic DNA Expert, received his Ph.D. from the College of William and Mary in Virginia. After receiving his degree, he accepted a position as Head of Population Genetics and Stock Identification Program at the School of Marine Science, College of William and Mary. In this position he directed graduate students and led research projects in molecular genetic techniques.

Dr. Meehan joined Genetic Design, Inc. as an Associate Director of Paternity Analysis. In this position he assisted with the supervision of technical operations of the paternity laboratory, developed laboratory information systems, and participated with the development of one of the first robust multi-race database of DNA, RFLP, information for paternity analysis. Dr. Meehan also began serving as a laboratory inspector for the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), the agency that develops industry standards, inspects and accredits paternity testing laboratories.

From 1991 through 1998 Dr. Meehan served as the Director and consultant for progressive human identity testing laboratories including Laboratory Corporation of America (LabCorp), National Legal Laboratories, LifeCodes, CellMark, Reliagene, and Scales Biological Laboratory. During this time he was actively involved in the advancement of DNA technology in the areas of relationship and forensic DNA analysis.

In 1998 Dr. Meehan established DNA Security, Inc. and in 2004 his laboratory was accredited for forensic DNA analysis by the American Association of Laboratory Directors – Laboratory Accreditation Board (ASCLD-LAB). Under Dr. Meehan’s direction DNA Security, Inc. launched one of the first programs to use forensic DNA analysis as a true investigative tool. In 2008 this innovative program was awarded the August Vollmer Award for Excellence in Forensic Science by a Law Enforcement Agency by the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP).

In 2009, Dr. Meehan became Director of Forensics at IntelliGenetics, LLC.

Currently, in addition to consulting as a DNA Forensic Expert, Dr. Meehan is an Associate Professor of Forensic Biology at Ohio Northern University.
